I love that you pay once for popcorn and it's unlimited, and they've suggested sharing one bowl with friends, which seems almost unreasonably nice. The beer prices are very reasonable, $5-$6 per pint, and they offer pitchers (pitchers are 4x the price of the pint price). Worst theater I've ever been to.
We decided on the Alamo because we could go to an early show at 12:20 when there would not be a huge crowd and also have lunch. So so good, although a little messy!
Make sure you have your phones off and don't touch them. That's how it should be. Are you in, or going to be in, downtown Kalamazoo? Alamo Drafthouse Cinema was everything I hoped it would be! Although it wasn't a top-notch experience this time around, I really do like this place. There was just so much grease. If it were closer to where we live and parking weren't a pickle (they validate but the neighboring ramp is a pita), we'd never go elsewhere for movies. We knew going in Mr. MVP was going to take the hit for Team VP and I was going to sit on the aisle seat, but bad for Mr. MVP who could have ended up sitting three inches away from a stranger. The fries were a little overdone but I was pleasantly surprised at how good the burger was.
The city needs it.
Well, because you can eat and drink to your heart's content! Advanced sound system properly calibrated, huge screen, big clean restrooms. I feel there's some fundamental flaws here, though. Please keep it alive. I go out there regularly for Yelp purposes. The beer I ordered came out before the end of the previews like a champ, but the food took until about halfway thru the 3 hour movie.I always give places a second chance, so we ordered food the next time. That's not their fault though so I won't waste typing about it here. The food is okay, better than the usual movie theater food, at about the quality of good bar fare or a family diner, and for a movie theater reasonably priced. It was quite nice to take time and eat during the move, nice change.We will definitely be back the next time we want to watch a movie.
That being said, the ticket price is competitive, but id say price for food is a little outlandish.With all that said, I still like coming here. (Later this year they are holding a Indiana Jones "Quote Along" event where they show all three IJ movies in a row, and give out props and have a lot of fun.). The kitchen did not have any non- citrus based dressings, so my salad came off the order. They offer a large selection of craft beers on draft, including many Michigan beers.
You stay out in your suburbs and go to whatever garbage theater is down the street.But you HAVE to keep the Drafthouse alive. I PERSONALLY HAD TO SIT OUTSIDE MY MOVIE TO WATCH MY SHITTY SERVER TALK VERY DISGRACEFULLY TO ME AND ABOUT ME, TO HER CO -WORKERS and then try to tell me " sorry I am being so shitty tonight "No Thank you dollBut you need some management! Get me a room there. Theatres are spacious and comfortable, and the best part? Try to get there early and order food right away if you're hungry - the wait for the food can be a bit longer than at your typical restaurant.
It was so melty and it was already spilt last time I got it because the glass was sticky with melted icecream.I've gotten a beer there. I have gone to several sing-along movie events at Alamo Drafthouse, including Grease, Pitch Perfect, and Chicago. I guess I'm lucky I live somewhere without a Drafthouse, otherwise I'd weigh a million pounds and never go anywhere else! Worst theater I've ever been to. I do not hear well, I have social phobias and I do not particularly care to sit still for more than twenty minutes unless I am knitting or talking or both. Do it again? I had a side salad and the tomato spinach (something along those lines?) Don't go there extremely hungry like I did. Great interactive vibe; comfortable seating; lots of fun. Mr. MVP loves movie theaters and this weekend however, we both wanted to see Divergent. This place gives new meaning to "dinner and a movie" and I love the concept of dining AT the movie theater (actually while watching a movie, not an attached restaurant), especially since it's usually dinner time when I want to see a movie. I am pleased with my selections so far. Get me a room there. The food was delicious - a bit pricey, but that's to be expected at any movie theatre,let alone one where they bring you food to your seat.
Menus are on the table, order your food/drink/booze on a slip of paper, tuck it in the paper holder and watch as your waiter/waitress comes by and takes your order and brings it to you, all while the film is going on. The sound was a little tough since it's a huge atrium with horrible acoustics but we did all right. I've eaten here a few times and have actually tried different things on the menu (this is unlike me, b/c I usually find one thing and stick to it). 2. Just write your wish on a provided slip of paper and a surveillance ninja will sprint down the aisle and whisk your order to the kitchen. Food is very tasty, and they have plenty of options whether you want brunch, dinner, snacks or just a cocktail, wine or beer. We love the food and drink ordering system that allows patrons to stay in their seats, the no-talking/texting and no-late-comers policy, the spacious seating and the special screenings and quote-alongs and sing-alongs. So good.

Also, every time someone in my row ordered something, I had to move my feet for the server to get by, and it become quite distracting. Also brunch! You can also drop by the lobby and enjoy dinner/lunch and drinks at any time, without a movie ticket. The pizza was hot, BUT it was so incredibly greasy. The last time I was in a theater was 4 years ago and the floor was so sticky I had to wash my sneakers when I got home. Then Alamo is the place for you. Next, I almost cancelled the order, but Mr. MVP actually got up and chased the waitress down to clarify because, sure enough, another of my food allergies, cured meats, which I had asked for a substitution had made its way back on to my pizza.By the time my pizza arrived, 17 minutes later - yes I used my phone on dim for light during the movie because it was really super dark in the corner of the theater and I could not see and Mr. MVP could not eat in the pitch dark - I was eating by myself. Food allergies are expensive!The first problem was with the dressing and after that the meal slowly began to fall apart. The food is actually really decent.

I have also had their green chile mac and cheese which is very tasty! Wait staff will take your orders for food, snacks, and sometimes even meals, and bring them to your table during the movie. I'd be there every night! Mr. MVP helped me eat it. Something like a Ciderboys Pineapple something-or-other is what I went with.
