For all those just seeing this thread now like I did, I can confirm that I activated my card by selecting a movie and filling in a prompt for the last 4 digits of my card.

Note: I haven't gone to the theater and actually finished the process yet.

It sounded...overly convoluted, so I was wondering if that was even necessary. After spending a lot of frustrating time searching for answers I think I have the activation process figured out.
